Fun Holiday Embroidery Projects

Embroidery has been with us for as long as fabric has, and it’s easy to see why. It’s easy to get into for beginners, and there’s almost no limit to the level of skill that you can develop with time and dedication. With the holidays all but right on top of us, now is the time for simple embroidery projects you can turn out in between decorating for Christmas and cooking Thanksgiving dinner. We hope you love them as much as we do.

7 Fun Holiday Embroidery Projects

These embroidery projects are simple and easy. But that doesn’t mean they have to be low quality. These are designs that even beginners can produce with flair and style that everyone will appreciate.

All of these projects use a double, round, wooden embroider frame, a piece of white cloth, and the fabric colors of your choice.

1. Christmas Animals

Begin by drawing your best cartoon deer, fox, or other holiday-friendly animals on the cloth and start stitching. Let your creativity flow, and add stars or snowflakes falling in the background.

2. 2-D Ornaments

Arguably the most straightforward pattern of all, create a simple star design. Fill it out with any sort of detail you choose. This is an excellent choice for the absolute beginner and an opportunity for embroidery veterans to shine.

3. Mini-Holiday Scene

Using your imagination, draw a simple holiday scenario between one or two characters or your favorite holiday icons. Snowmen, candy canes, and snowflakes are all excellent choices.

4. Holiday Greeting

You simply cannot go wrong with a no-nonsense Christmas greeting with a laurel, snowflake, or mistletoe design. Embroider in “Merry Christmas,” “Season’s Greetings,” “Happy Holidays,” “Welcome,” or whichever cheerful message you choose. This is also an excellent choice for those with a wild hair who wouldn’t mind getting a laugh or a wag of the finger.

5. Snow Globe Homage

Everyone loves a nice snow globe. Why not create a simple household setting with a tree or two and a bit of falling snow? With lots of straight lines and corners, this is a moderately easy project, good for when you’ve got a few embroidered snowflakes under your belt already.

6. Design-Form Christmas Tree

This is a good choice for embroiders of all skill levels. Make a simple triangle Christmas tree shape, and fill it out with orb designs. Beginners might form simple spirals, while more advanced crafters might go for more complex patterns. Either way, it will look great!

7. Holiday Character Patches

Try making a collection of different holiday characters, items, or symbols. Mix and match them for different decoration designs, or make a children’s game for the little ones to play.
